Children home ‘Agatos Gavojdia’ Timisoara – Timis
Establishment takes place in 1922, following a donation of citizen Karol Sfabb, its real estate assets to the Romanian state for the purpose of protecting orphans.
The institution has been operating as an orphanage for boys, with tradition over time, honouring its purpose to provide care, education and integration of thousands of boys.
In 1993 in the Orphanage of Gavojdia were protected 143 children in dorm-boarding system with horizontally age structured groups of children, from seven years.
Since 1995 were institutionalized children from three years, girls and boys.
It passed to the family system repartitioning spaces in apartments, in each one living a big brotherhood underlying the substitute family created.
In present, the family system proves its efficiency when the percentage of social integration at discharge is 100%, juvenile crime was eradicated (for a while), among institutionalized children and children from the local community are no differences.
From 1998 to 2008 were obtained remarkable achievements in reintegrating children in their natural families and adoptions, at a rate of 9.24% with an average of 11 children per year.
Currently, the orphanage hosts 98 children between the ages places 2 to 25 years (students). Children are divided into 10 apartments family system.
All apartments have the best conditions for daily life: kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedrooms equipped and personalized, and a vegetables garden.
In the institution exists first aid cabinet, computers room, languages room, theatre and crafts workshop, carpentry and metalworking shops, a polivalent sports court, club and music hall.
Also, there in the orphanage exists an animal farm with horse, cows and pigs, lands for corn and three greenhouses each providing food supplements for children and a kitchen where food is prepared for the entire group of children.
